What Can Stories Teach Us About Science?

Look at one of our 'imaginative' stories from class and discuss how it can comment on an issue like robotics or human cloning.

One of the readings that we did in mine English Composition 101 class was call the Number by Carly Churchill which is about the ethics of cloning. The story tells the story of a father, Salter who clones his son as a way to release some of the remorse that he felt by neglected his primary son. Salter clones his son multiple times and that way he felt that he could make up for the time he lost with his son. As could have imagined things did not work out the way he expected and end up being lonely with neither of the ones he loved. This only shows the mistake of a father who in the attempt to fix his errors made as a father decide to clone his son so he can change the way he acted in the first place with his “original” son which only proves impossible to do, because you cannot pretend to fix the mistakes you did in the past with other son. This is one on the things that humans have not yet have control over even with the pass of decades, time. Humanity does not have the control of time and cannot go back and change the past.

Robotics

Are you an optimist or persismits about robotics?

I believe am a pessimist about robotics because I do not think robots would ever be able to have the actual same feelings that a human begin would have. Scientifics could try to give robots or insert into them programs on which they can imitate much alike a human qualities such as emotions. I think that robots would be re-program with better artificial intelligence and still lack of the complexity of a human begin. It’s so hard to imitate a living thing, since it’s compose of so many materials that even the science have not even yet discover its complexity. So the answer would be that it’s almost impossible for a human begin or scientific to re-created or attempt to reproduce a similar machine (human body) if we as humanity have not yet develop the perfect strategy to fully understand our own complex system.

Final Course Reflection

Reflect or think about what you have learned in ENG 101 and the cluster during the semester.

This my first cluster as well as mine first semester I have learned new things that I know help me to develop better skills in mine future classes and mine future career. In the Philosophy class I learned about the different ideas that ancient thinkers had such as the idea reality and the physical world. In Psychology class I learned the idea of dreams and the consciousness. In English composition the reflections and analyze the development of technology and robotics. In this clusters the main topic to get across and the main theme to be study was the brain, mind and the consciousness, which in interrelated in so many ways in the cluster throughout the courses. Specially in the class of English Composition  I deeply learned about robots and their ability to get better artificial intelligence in the future and if they would ever be able to surpass the humanity. This topic made me realize and understand to appreciate more the qualities that we have as human creatures, which most of the time we underestimate. It made me value the abilities that I have and the capacity to used my mind as well and emotions and learn to differentiate between the artificial intelligence and us.

Sample paper- Mary Jones

One of the things that I like the most about this research paper is its organization, the use of the sources and the way it is written. It is easy to read and to understand the author makes herself clear and achieves her goal to get her point across which could be seing easily but when it cames to actually write a paper, it could be really hard to do. In my experience is hard to get your whole ideas written in a paper and make them clear and undestandable.

Altruisn and the Selfish genes and Darwin

I think that in a sense the most pesimist about altruism is Charles Darwin with his theory about natural selection. In his theory where Darwin explain the natural selection that only the fittest survives, and only the stronger will be able to live or to get the better food. This theory would over thrown the idea of altruism, and that we humans do good things for others for the exchange of nothing. Acoording to Darwin human beings would not act in a altruistic way because we would be too worry about our ownselves and trying to survive as the strongestof our kind.

Final idea for my Research Paper

For my Research Paper I would used idea #5 with the film I, Robot protagonist by Will  Smith. My main topic in my writing is going to be about the techonological advancesto the point where they would be abe to replace human life and up to waht point robots would be able to gain as much human qualities as possiblein the future. One story telling about robots that could be use is the one of Frankistaine. This story shows how this hteory of robots have exist since many years ago.

Have to changed or focus your topic based on your own thinking or your instructor feedback?

Unfortuanaly I had to change the soucers that I was planning to use on my reasearch paper idea #5 because my instructor said that I could have better resoucers than the book  Breve New World and I, Robot. So now am still undecide but I think I am going to use books rather than movies and they could be base on clones. Now mine problem is to get those sources and which ones could be good for the porpuse of my research paper.
